What are DeckWave™ Interlocking Panels?

DeckWave™ panels are a fiber reinforced polypropylene plastic panel made to look like four boards 5½” wide.  They are made by the structural foam injection process.  The unique open wave pattern allows light, water, wind and debris to flow through.  When used in environmentally sensitive areas, DeckWave™ is the choice of decking.  There are many other applications where DeckWave™ can be used; from docks to walkways or any type of indoor or outdoor walking surface. Recommended decking support is 16”.

Why is Structural Foam Injection Better Than High Pressure Injection?

This is more of an issue when parts are required to be stronger than what is generally possible with the process of high pressure injection.  As a rule, high pressure is limited to ⅛” thick.  Structural Foam, on the other hand, requires a slower process but is done at considerably lower pressure and can safely fill up to about ¼” wall thickness without defects.  The end product is generally straighter and has less warping. Structural Foam is known for its higher strength to weight ratio.  Drilling or screwing into high pressure plastic will result in cracking or shattering.  When attempting this in any structural foam product, the chance of a crack is considerably reduced due to its cellular structure.

What are the Long Term cost benefits of DeckWave™ compared to other plastic panels?

This is a very important point not addressed by our competitors.  The weight of the DeckWave™ panels are approximately 35% heavier than most of our competitors yet ⅓ the weight of traditional composite panels.  Our design has allowed us to have a surface thickness of 0.250” or more where some of our competitors have areas around their surface openings of only 0.050” or 5 times thinner.  Even their thickest surface measurement is approximately ½ that of our minimum surface thickness.  What does this mean to you? When put under heavy load, impact or harsh sunny conditions there is twice the thickness under your feet.  Under a long term test of the two processes, test results will back up the $/year value i.e $46.00/15 years of life $53.00/30 years.  The benefits are obvious with only a slightly higher price per panel.

What is a Vertically Interlocking Flex Tab?

We have invented the VIFT system, which is a full length locking tab that integrates the back of one panel into another.  This limits any up or down movement as well as any side to side movement when stepping on the panels.  This Flex Tab allows for compressive movement, which permits expansion from one panel into another. A feature not found in any of our competitor products;  giving the nicest and most uninterrupted look at the connection points.

Why a Wave Pattern?

Many looks were possible but the primary criteria in choosing the wave design was to incorporate strength, looks and traction.  The wave pattern came about more by design integration without affecting strength, while still incorporating a water theme.

How Does Deckwave™ Give You Traction?

In the designing stage, it was found that the open wave pattern with a slightly crowned surface did not need much texturing to give good traction. Unlike straight lines of industrial looking panels.  Knurled surface textures create sharp pockets for dirt to collect and was not as desirable. Thus, a wood grain pattern was chosen to go in the opposite direction of the wave pattern, which further helps to give the panel boards the natural look.  The excellent traction resulted in a foot friendly and comfortable surface to walk or lie on without getting a prickly pattern on your body.

How is Deckwave™ Chemical Resistant?

Using polypropylene has many advantages, for example:  gasoline, oil, sun tanning lotion, etc. can be spilled without any negative effects.  This also applies if birds leave droppings.  Staining or painting DeckWave™ is not advisable since neither will adhere to polypropylene.

Can Cleats be Bolted to Deckwave™ Decking?

The DeckWave™ panel is the only panel made with dedicated locations for various cleat sizes.  Cleats are mounted to the decking, utilizing an aluminum backing plate. This also works in harmony with the optional swing tabs for incredible holding power.

What are Deckwaves™ Cold and Hot Weather Capabilities?

Whether the decking is used in the far north at -25˚F or direct sun up to 120˚F, you can be assured of good-working characteristics.  This also is helped by the fibre reinforcement which keeps the expansion to a minimum.

How is UV Stabilization Further Enhanced?

Other companies talk about 5 to 7 years of UV stabilization, which is common for outdoor use.  The issue is the thickness facing the sun. DeckWave™ panels are thicker than any other competitor on the market.  The sun will deteriorate thinner material considerably faster.  Therefore, longer life is inevitable with DeckWave™ interlocking panels.
